GREENWICH, Conn. – As 2012 comes to a close, The Greenwich Daily Voice is counting down some of the top stories of the year .
The Greenwich Board of Education unanimously voted in William McKersie as the new superintendent of schools on April 25.
The search for a new superintendent was launched after the unexpected resignation of Sidney Freund in May 2011. Roger Lulow filled in as interim superintendent from August until McKersie's appointment.
The board’s choice came after a 10-month national search by the firm of Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates. It held focus groups of students, parents, faculty and staff; did individual interviews; and held open community forums throughout January to develop a leadership profile for its search.
Before becoming Greenwich superintendent, McKersie was the associate superintendent for academic excellence with the Archdiocese of Boston in Braintree, Mass.
