Filmore has taught photography at Sacred Heart Greenwich for 16 years. She received her bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the University of the Arts.
In addition, she received professional certification for extended studies from the Maine Media Workshops (2001-2014), Westchester Community College’s Peekskill Media Center (1995-2011) and the Women’s Studio Workshop (2010).
The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers presented Filmore with a medal and certificate.
The Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards is a recognition program for teens in grades 7-12. A total of 320,000 works of art and writing were submitted for adjudication at the regional level in the Awards’ 29 categories, which include poetry, photography, sculpture, humor, editorial cartoons, video game design and more.
“Kev Filmore is an amazing photography teacher who inspires her students to create works of beauty and insight that reflect the world that surrounds them,” said Jayne Collins, Upper School head. “Kev is an outstanding mentor and advocate for her students.”
“I am very proud of the students’ work and appreciate the recognition,” Filmore said.
In the 2016 Awards, Sacred Heart students Samantha Clark and Catherine Keating received national Silver Awards, placing them in the top one percent of all submissions. In addition to the two national winners, the Connecticut Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards honored seven Sacred Heart photography students.
The Scholastic Awards program was founded in 1923. Alumni include as Andy Warhol, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Philip Pearlstein and Sylvia Plath. Stephen King, Richard Linklater, Zac Posen, and Lena Dunham received Scholastic Art & Writing Awards when they were teens.

Sacred Heart Greenwich is an all-girls independent, Catholic college preparatory school for grades K-12 with the coed Barat Center for Early Childhood Education. The school is located at 1177 King St. in Greenwich.
