Replacement Named As Greenwich Alternative School's Administrator Retires

GREENWICH, Conn. – As of July 1, Greenwich Alternative High School will have a new program administrator, said Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Bill McKersie in a press release.

Rosemarie “Roe” Ampha will be taking over the position vacated by Barbara Varanelli, who recently announced her retirement.

Amphas has worked at Greenwich High School since 2004, first as a special education teacher then as program administrator for the special education program.

“Roe impressed the interview panel with her knowledge of Special Education and her vision for developing an integrated alternative high school program with increased options for a wider range of students,” Mary Forde, director of pupil personnel services, said in a press release.

Ampha looks forward to promoting a program that capitalizes on the strengths of the students enrolled and the faculty at GAHS, Forde said. 

Ampha has two masters of science degrees – one in childhood special education from Hunter College and the other in curriculum development and instructional technology from SUNY Albany.

She earned her bachelor’s of science degree in elementary education from SUNY Oswego in 2002.
