Redistricting Study Needed, Says Ridgefield School Board

RIDGEFIELD, Conn. — As an alternative to closing one of Ridgefield's six elementary schools, the Board of Education decided to look at the possibility of a redistricting study.

The decision to close a school has been tabled for a year with the date of the possible closure pushed from the 2013-14 school year to 2014-15.

During its regular meeting Monday night, the board discussed having the study completed in the middle of next year so that the most accurate numbers and information possible would be available.

It would be a matter of balancing out the schools, said board member John Palermo. Vice Chairman Irene Burgess wondered whether redistricting could be minimized so the smallest number of students would be moved.

Ultimately, no decisions can be made until a study is completed, but all board members agreed that they wanted to minimize the impact as much as they could.
