The juvenile boy’s name has not been released due to his age, but no other students were involved in making threats, interim Superintendent Tony Daddona said.

"He was acting alone," said Daddona.

The exact nature of the threats was not disclosed, but the student threatened a teacher and an administrator with violence, he said.

Norwalk police were investigating the matter and charged him with first-degree threatening, a felony.

"During the investigation, it was determined the father legally owned two handguns," Police Lt. Praveen John said in a statement. "Although the guns were properly secured and the student did not have access to them, the father voluntarily surrendered the guns to the police for safekeeping."

School officials sent robo-calls to parents Monday alerting them of the incident, but the school was never placed on lockdown because of the threats.

The student was still in police custody as of Monday afternoon.

“This was reported thanks to the vigilance of our students acting as a team,” said Daddona. “I’m very proud that when students saw something they notified the police about it.”
