Nominate an Outstanding Greenwich Teacher

Do you know an exceptional teacher in your child’s school? You can show your appreciation by nominating him or her for Greenwich’s 2011 Distinguished Teacher Award.

The award committee is a nonprofit organization established in 1984 to recognize and celebrate excellence among the teaching staff in Greenwich Public Schools. The committee includes teachers, administrators, parents and board of education members who serve three-year terms. Award winners are selected solely on the basis of written information provided in their nomination packets.

Teachers must be full-time staff members at Greenwich Public Schools, must have completed at least five years of teaching by March 10, 2011, three of which must have been at Greenwich Public Schools, and must be an employee in good standing as determined by the schools human resources department.

Either a professional colleague employed in the Greenwich Public Schools, a Greenwich schools administrator or a parent, a student or other current community member must make the nomination. Nomination packets are available online and at your child’s school.

The 2010 honorees were Alison Allerton, an Eastern Middle School music teacher; Jessica Baker, a North Street School advanced learning program teacher; Rita Baker, a Greenwich High School world language teacher; Charill Pierce, a Parkway School first-grade teacher; Kathy Steiner, a Greenwich High health and wellness teacher; and Sheri Lyn Wollard, a Central Middle School eighth-grade science teacher.

This year’s finalists will be selected April 12 and announced the next day. They will be presented at the Board of Education meeting at Riverside School on April 28. The winners will be named at an award ceremony at Western Middle School on May 3.
