Trump, the first daughter and a senior advisor at the White House, met with students along with IBM CEO Ginni Rometty, and engaged in a panel conversation on Monday morning, according to Norwalk Public Schools.  Trump discussed the importance of modern skills and career education.

NECA is offered through a partnership between Norwalk Public Schools, Norwalk Community College and IBM. Students in NECA complete a program that allows them to graduate with both a high school degree and an associate's degree in applied sciences. The program launched in 2014, and the first class is set to graduate this spring at an accelerated pace of four years instead of the typical six.

Monday's event was hosted at the request of IBM, which provides paid summer internships to NECA students, as well as school-year mentors and job coaches.
