GREENWICH, Conn. —  Greenwich students improved or matched their scores from previous years on this year's state standardized tests.

Greenwich third through eighth graders have increased writing and science scores over the past two years, but dropped slightly in math on the Connecticut Master Test, better known as the CMT.

“In our initial review of the results of the 2012 CMT and CAPT assessments, we are pleased to see improvements in virtually every grade level (3-8, 10), assessment
area (Reading, Writing, Math & Science), and achievement level (Proficiency, Mastery, and Advanced)," Greenwich Superintendent Dr. William S. McKersie wrote a release.

Writing scores for seventh graders dropped about 7 percent between 2010 and 2011, with about 69 percent of students scoring at or above the state level in 2011. This year, 77 percent of those students wrote at the state goal level, an 8 percent increase from 2011.

In math, 84 percent of third graders met or exceeded the state goal, up from about 76 percent in 2010. Sixth and eight grade scores dropped about a point across both years, while seventh graders dropped about 3 points since last year.

Tenth graders' scores rose in all subjects on the CAPT.

A complete list of the results can be found on the state database.
