Hammonds is a senior at Convent of the Sacred Heart in Greenwich and was named a semifinalist in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship program. Hammonds lives in Ossining, N.Y.

“Tara is an exceptional young woman, a top student with wide and varied interests, who engages and inspires other students during classroom discussions,” said Jayne Collins, head of the Upper School, in a press release. “After completing 125 hours of community service last year, she participated this summer in Sacred Heart’s service-learning program at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

"She never stops applying her abilities to any task at hand, encouraging others and demonstrating her love of learning. In June 2013, she was awarded the Harvard Book Award at Prize Day.”

Convent of the Sacred Heart recognized Hammonds in September when Head of School Pamela Juan Hayes and Collins announced her National Merit honor to the entire Upper School at the morning meeting.
