Greenwich Schools Won't Require Landlord Affadavit

GREENWICH, Conn. — Greenwich Public Schools have made some changes to how they  verify the residency of students. 

The district will no longer require a notarized landlord affidavit, Superintendent William McKersie said Friday.  

“We are confident that we have maintained an effective process for verifying residency in Greenwich while eliminating a potentially undue burden of paperwork for families," McKersie said.

All Greenwich Public Schools students must prove residency, including those entering kindergarten and moving from eight to ninth grade. The district accepts the following as proof of residency: 

  • Photo ID: driver’s license, passport or Connecticut-issued identification card.
  • Notarized affidavit of parent/guardianship or notarized sponsor affidavit form.
  • Homeowner can show a property tax bill, mortgage statement or ownership deed.
  • Renters can show lease or rental agreement signed by landlord with landlord's phone number.
  • Two utility bills that are in same name and for same address.
