GREENWICH, Conn. -- The Greenwich School District announced five recipients of the 2013 Distinguished Teachers Award Thursday.

Cecilia Aita, a special education teacher at Central Middle School, Jennifer Benoit, a special education teacher at Greenwich High, Melissa Macchio Brown, an English/AVID teacher at Greenwich High, Stephen Kinner, a technology education teacher at Eastern Middle School, Esra Murray, a fifth grade teacher at International School at Dundee and Marybeth Smith, an English Teacher at Greenwich High, were each awarded the school district's honor.

The Distinguished Teachers Awards Committee, established in 1984, has worked on the selection process for this year’s recipients for the last eight months. The Committee selects the Distinguished Teachers from nominations made by colleagues, parents, students, administrators and/or community members based on criteria outlined in the nomination packet.

A ceremony honoring the award-winners will be held at Western Middle School on May 7 at 4 p.m.
