Hurricane Sandy closed schools for six days, which used up all five of the built-in makeup days added on to the school year in June. The sixth day will be made up Monday by having students attend school on Veterans Day.
The Greenwich Board of Education began discussing makeup day options during Thursday's meeting. But it won't make a decision until after winter break at the earliest on further makeup days caused by snow during the winter.
"Everything is on the table and open for discussion, including vacations coming up and holidays coming up," Eves said. "We will have to look at making up any more snow days at the end of the school year in June, February break, April break or other holidays."
The last two school years have put the school system’s schedules to the test with more severe storms in the fall, Eves said.
"The caveat on our officially issued school calendar calls for days beyond the five built-in days to be made up at the end of the school year or in the spring recess,” she said. “But that’s usually assuming those storm days are in the winter.”
