Be Honest Day is a common initiative across grade levels to promote safety, the school district announced Wednesday.
Students will discuss what honesty and trustworthiness looks like at home and at school. Teachers will emphasize the benefits and importance of being honest. All media specialists in the district are assisting teachers by providing them with books and materials about honesty.
The initiative promotes and teaches the value of honesty among the students and taking responsibility for their actions. It also aims to create an opportunity for fostering social-emotional learning and reinforcing district standards.
Mental health professionals and teachers from many of the schools coordinated the event with their peers, administrators and students in their respective buildings. Lesson plans were disseminated, structured around the "Be Honest" theme, encouraging teachers to implement them in their own creative ways.
In addition, all teachers, staff and students in the Greenwich Public Schools and at the district's office at the Havemeyer Building are encouraged to wear blue on to express their participation in the event.
