Greenwich Musicians Play To Keep Lessons Free

GREENWICH, Conn. – Young musicians from Greenwich Alliance for Education’s "Tuning In To Music" program performed last week to raise money to for lessons for underprivileged students.

The musicians were the centerpiece of the second annual “Night at Asiana,” playing for a crowd of more than 70 local supporters of music education Feb. 29. The program provides free private and semiprivate lessons to Greenwich Public School band and orchestra students.

Since its inception, more than 150 students have joined the program. Several graduates are now playing with Greenwich High School music ensembles.

"Tuning In To Music" fifth-grade violin players Victoria Z. and Matthew R., from Hamilton Avenue School, along with viola player Isabella G., from Julian Curtiss School, were participated in the town’s Strings Festival ensemble earlier this year.

The festival gave local elementary and middle school students a chance to collaborate with other high-achieving string students from across the Greenwich schools.
