Greenwich High School ESOL Teacher Wins State Humanitarian Award

GREENWICH, Conn. – Alice Jean DiVincenzo, a Greenwich High School teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages, has been selected to receive the 2015 Connecticut Education Association’s Humanitarian Award for Leadership in Recent Immigrant Educational Community Relationships.

An educator for 40 years, at least 30 of them with the Greenwich Public Schools, DiVincenzo received this honor as an individual who has "demonstrated leadership in resolving social and educational problems as they relate to recent immigrants," according to a press release.

Eligibility for this award requires individuals to have developed and/or implemented a schoolwide and/or communitywide program that provides relief for recently arrived immigrants, secures money and sources to provide education, increases public awareness and protects and advances the civil and human rights of the recent immigrants and develops ESL instructional materials, multimedia programs, and/or curriculum, according to a press release.

DiVincenzo was presented with the award at a May 15 ceremony.
