Construction of a new auditorium and music space at Greenwich High School will begin July 1, according to the Board of Education.
The Representative Town Meeting approved $17 million in funding for the $29 million project as part of the towns $358 million budget. Beginning the project before it receives state approval means the school board could lose a $275,000 state reimbursement.
The project will add a choral room to the existing music space, create a new building at the site of the current auditorium and build a new auditorium with a galleria and 1,325 seats. The first phase begins with tree removal and modifications to the site to improve traffic flow, including widening lanes and extending the west parking lot.
