GREENWICH, Conn. The Greenwich High School Math Team won the Connecticut State Association of Mathematics Leagues annual competition for a fourth consecutive year.
The competition, held April 3, included several rounds of questioning and problem-solving in categories such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, analytic geometry, trigonometry and complex numbers. The competition consisted of six rounds plus a team round. Each student took a maximum of three rounds, and each round consisted of a 10-minute, three-question test.
Seven Greenwich High School students and one Eastern Middle School student participated on the team: Warren Bein (senior, captain), Danny Carr (junior), Robert Cheng (junior), Connor Harris (senior, captain), Ryota Ishizuka (senior, captain), Michael Kural (an Eastern Middle School eighth-grader), Thomas Yang (junior) and Fiona Young (sophomore). Senior Captain Connor Harris led the team with a perfect score of 18.
Greenwich won its third consecutive Fairfield County Math League Championship to qualify for the state competition. The students now compete in the New England Association of Math Leagues at Canton High School in Canton, Mass., on April 27.
