GREENWICH, Conn. -- Greenwich Education Group has appointed Andrea MacGilpin as the new director of its Links Academy One-to-One Learning (LINKS).
The academy is at GEG's 44 Commerce Road campus in Stamford.
"LINKS is committed to providing an outstanding customized experience for students in a nurturing and empowering environment that celebrates learning," said MacGilpin, who also looks forward to increasing LINKS outreach in neighboring towns. "We are committed to fostering relationships, building community and meeting the unique learning styles of each and every student.”
MacGilpin is a licensed clinical social worker who received her master's degree from Columbia University School of Social Work. She also has a bachelor of arts in psychology and communication from Denison University.
A native of South Salem, N.Y., MacGilpin has extensive experience working with children, teenagers and young adults with autism and other neurodevelopmental delays who benefit from individualized educational needs.
Before joining Greenwich Education Group, she was the Clinical Director at 3LPlace Life College, a residential transition program for young adults with developmental disabilities in Somerville, Mass. MacGilpin also helped develop the transition program at Rebecca School in New York City, which offers therapeutic support to students with special needs, ages 14 to 21.
Throughout her career, MacGilpin has counseled and coached families/parents on preparing for a child’s life after the child leaves the school system. She is certified in DIR Floortime and is a CPI-certified instructor.
Founded in 2007, LINKS provides accredited, short- or long-term, individualized academic programs for students who are looking to accelerate their learning or are unable to attend traditional school. Some typical reasons may include school anxiety and avoidance; a medical issue that is keeping them out of school; the student is in transition between schools; or the student is an athlete, actor or otherwise requires a more flexible schedule. Since 2010, LINKS programs have benefited more than 170 students.
Greenwich Education Group is a multi-division organization focusing on every facet of a child’s academic development and success. Its divisions include academic tutoring – in-home and at the center – standardized test preparation, education consulting, specialized learning services, transition programs and three accredited schools that focus on the special needs of their student populations.
