GREENWICH, Conn. – The Greenwich Board of Estimate and Taxation gave preliminary and unanimous support to a $1.4 million proposal to enhance security in the town's schools at a budget meeting Tuesday evening.
Superintendent of Schools William McKersie and Greenwich Police Chief Jim Heavey described the upgrades, including additional security cameras, classroom doors that can be locked from the inside, improved intercom systems, reinforced windows and shades for windows in classroom doors.
The $1.4 million proposal would be tacked on to the 2013-14 school budget that is awaiting approval.
The Board of Estimate and Taxation will vote on the measure Monday. The board will vote on the town and school operating budgets March 21.
