Salvatore "Sal" Corda begins his position on July 1. His contract term is for the 2016-17 school year with flexibility if a new permanent superintendent is identified earlier than the end of the school year.

Corda has extensive experience as superintendent in both New York and Connecticut public school systems. He is currently consulting independently and for Cooperative Education Services in Trumbull on leadership searches and development, systemic improvement and strategic planning. His most recent tenure as superintendent was with the Norwalk Public Schools for eight years from 2001 to 2009.

Greenwich Board of Education Chairman Laura Erickson is happy to have Corda on board.

“The Board is pleased to welcome Dr. Corda as Interim Superintendent," she said. "Dr. Corda is an experienced superintendent who will be able to lead the district during this time of transition by focusing on and continuing the work of the strategic plan.”

Corda said he is looking forward to the next school year.

“I am honored and delighted to be selected as the Interim Superintendent for the coming school year," he said. "I am committed to continuing the work of the district, building on the thoughtful, research based plan for systemic district improvement developed by Dr. McKersie and the district staff.”

Superintendent of Schools Bill McKersie announced his decision not to seek the renewal of his contract with the Greenwich Public Schools on April 22. His subsequent appointment as superintendent of the Weston Public Schools was announced on May 6.

McKersie’s tenure as the Greenwich superintendent will come to a close June 30.

Corda will be working with McKersie and administration throughout the month of June to ensure a smooth transition.

The school board’s search for a new superintendent is already underway. A Request For Proposals has been issued for a search firm, and the school said it anticipated selecting a search firm by the end of June.
