GREENWICH, Conn. – Cos Cob School will be searching for a new principal to replace  Kim Beck now that she's moving on to  become assistant superintendent in Ridgefield.

Beck's appointment in Ridgefield is effective in January, according to a press release. She has been the principal of Cos Cob  School  since 2007.

“For almost six years, I have had the privilege of being the proud principal of Cos Cob School," Beck said in the statement. "There is nothing I am more humbled by than the unrelenting support of the entire learning community. I have been honored to work alongside the students, faculty and parents."

Nancy Carbone, a retired Greenwich Public Schools principal who is currently acting as interim assistant principal at Cos Cob School, will take on the interim principal position through Feb. 8, 2013. John Grasso, retired Riverside School principal, will assume the role of interim principal for Cos Cob School from Feb. 8 through the end of the school year.

The search for a permanent principal will begin after the start of the new year.

"Kim Beck has given her head, heart, and hand to the Greenwich Public Schools for 11 years.  From the first day we met, she has stood out for her educational expertise and passion for student learning," Greenwich Superintendent Dr. William McKersie said in the statement. "We will miss her greatly, and Cos Cob will miss her greatly. We are confident that Mrs. Beck will bring her excellence and passion to benefit all students in Ridgefield."

Beck began her career in 1993 as a fourth-grade teacher at Whiting Lane Elementary School in West Hartford. In 1997, she moved to the Greenwich Public Schools as a reading and language arts specialist and, subsequently, as a Learning Facilitator for Western Middle School. She worked as a fifth-grade teacher in the New Lebanon school system before being promoted to assistant principal of Silvermine Elementary School in Norwalk, where she served from 2003 to 2007.
