Carbone To Remain Interim Cos Cob School Principal

GREENWICH, Conn. – Interim principal Nancy Carbone will remain at her post at Cos Cob School through the rest of the school year, according to a  new release from the district Tuesday.

Carbone, a former Greenwich Public Schools principal, came out of retirement when principal Kim Beck took the position as assistant superintendent in Ridgefield.

Due to retirement constraints placed on administrators working in similar roles, the State Teacher Retirement Board originally ruled that Carbone could not continue through year’s end as interim principal. The District appealed the decision and has been able to secure an understanding from the board that Carbone could serve the rest of the school year in order to allow for  "consistency of leadership."

Carbone had been serving as the interim assistant principal at Cos Cob school before Beck left for her new position.

Retired principal John Grasso was originally slated to take over for Carbone on Feb. 9.

"I am grateful to John Grasso for being ready to take on this role, to Nancy for her commitment, and to both of them for their flexibility in recognizing the importance of the Cos Cob School having consistent leadership," Greenwich Superintendent William McKersie said. "John is a beloved member of our emeritus principal pool, as is Nancy. We all are stronger for their willingness to still serve in the district.”
