Oxycodone Pills, Loaded Handgun Discovered After Nassau County Traffic Stop, Police Say

A 27-year-old man was charged after police said he resisted arrest and was found to be in possession of oxycodone pills and a loaded handgun following a traffic stop on Long Island.

Randy Scott was arrested for the incident in Inwood, which occurred at 2:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, the Nassau County Police Department reported.

NCPD said officers initiated a traffic stop after seeing a blue Toyota sedan commit a number of infractions in the area of Pearl Street and West End Avenue in Inwood.

Police said during the traffic stop, Scott, of Inwood, exited his vehicle and shoved an officer before running away with a green bag. Authorities said officers saw Scott throw the bag over a fence onto an awning on Randall Avenue.

Officers were able to reach him after a pursuit. NCPD said Scott was brought into custody after a brief struggle. 

Authorities said Scott was found in possession of oxycodone pills, and a loaded handgun was discovered inside of the green bag. 

An officer suffered an injury to his knee during the incident and was taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

NCPD said Scott has been charged with the following:

  • Second-degree assault
  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon 
  • Criminal possession of a firearm
  • Resisting arrest
  • Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance
  • Second-degree criminal contempt
  • Multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions

Police said Scott will be arraigned "when medically practical."
