Wine Tasting to Benefit Somers Education Foundation

SOMERS, N.Y. - Traditions Restaurant will host an Autumn Wine Tasting to benefit the Somers Education Foundation Thursday night.

The SEF provides innovative grants for individual teachers and for the central school district.

“The power library initiative helped upgrade each school library with technological and non-technological materials. That’s an example of a district grant," said Trustee Rose Corbett. "Individual grants are for things like buying iPads for the kindergarten, or funding the seventh grade art program so they could make African art masks.”

Each year the SEF conducts a number of fundraisers, such as a golf outing, a student variety show, a carnival night and a basketball game between the Harlem Wizards and Somers school faculty.

Thursday night’s event will feature a delicious buffet in addition to the variety of wines for tasting, furnished by Somers Discount Wine & Spirits. Individual bottles or cases will be available at a 15 percent discount.

Fifteen percent of the proceeds from wine sales will be donated to the SEF and everybody will receive a wine-related gift bag. There will be a 50/50 raffle as well. The event starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at the door are $55 per person. Traditions Restaurant is on Route 118 in Granite Springs. Wine purchases can be picked up at Somers Discount Wine & Spirits in the Somers Towne Center.
