Manhattanville College Names Interim President

HARRISON, N.Y. - Manhattanville College named Jon Calvert Strauss as its interim president to replace college Chairman Robert Hall. Hall was named acting president last month to replace Molly Easo Smith, who resigned unexpectedly.

“My wife, Jean, and I are looking forward to joining the Manhattanville College and Westchester County communities, and we are committed to further strengthening the many ties for the mutual benefit of both,” Strauss said in a press release. “We have lived and worked all over this great nation, and nowhere have we seen greater excitement and future potential. We are anxious to become active participants in these dynamic environments."

Strauss has worked as an interim leader for Texas Tech University and also served as president of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Bainbridge Graduate Institute and Harvey Mudd College, which he helped lead to a top 15 ranking among national liberal arts colleges by U.S. News and World Reports.

“We are delighted that Dr. Strauss will join the Manhattanville College Community.  He is a seasoned, dynamic, higher education leader with a strong commitment to academic excellence, who will build upon the success of the College’s initiatives,” Hall said in a statement.

The appointment will take effect on Monday.

“Dr. Strauss will have oversight and responsibility for all aspects of campus administration and its students while a committee is formed to conduct an extensive search for the new President of Manhattanville College," Hall said
