Duffy To Seek Independence Party Nod Via Write-In

LEWISBORO – Supervisor Charlie Duffy will seek the Independence Party nomination via write-in ballot after the party snubbed him last month and nominated challenger Peter Parsons instead. Duffy received the party’s nomination when he ran two years ago.

Duffy said he was disappointed that he did not receive the party’s endorsement, calling it a “down-county decision having nothing to do with the bests interests of the Town of Lewisboro.”

The supervisor also acknowledged that winning a write-in primary to get the nomination – required when non-enrolled candidates run without the consent of a party’s leadership – would be difficult, but said it was something worth pursuing.

Duffy, who hopes to become the first Lewisboro supervisor re-elected in a decade, is running with a slate of candidates that represents three different political parties known as Team Lewisboro.

"Our team represents three political parties with a shared common desire to continue to work to stabilize the town's finances without resorting to the deficit spending or large tax increases of the past, to protect our environment, to provide high-quality recreation opportunities to families and to meet the needs of taxpayers of all ages," Duffy said. "I believe that our nonpartisan approach to local government is in-line with the philosophy of Lewisboro's Independence Party voters, and ultimately they should have the option of deciding on their candidates for November.”

Team Lewisboro will host an informal reception for Independence Party voters at the Horse & Hound Inn Sunday, July 17, from 5-7 p.m.

In addition to Duffy, Team Lewisboro includes Town Board candidates Rhea Mallett and John Pappalardo, Town Clerk Kathy Cory and former three-term highway superintendent, Stephen Hill.  The Horse & Hound Inn is located at 94 Spring Street in South Salem and there is no charge for the event.  For more information, e-mail info@TeamLewisboro.com
