A winter storm barrelled into Greenwich earlier than expected Wednesday morning and the National Weather Service says heavier snow is expected overnight. In fact, there's a 100 percent chance of lots of the white stuff.
Snow is expected to pick up Wednesday afternoon and nine to 13 inches of snow could be on the ground by Thursday morning. A winter storm warning remains in effect for lower Fairfield County until 6 a.m., Thursday.
No serious accidents have been reported and there are so far no road closures, Greenwich police say.
Inclement weather always brings additional motor vehicle accidents, said Lt. Kraig Gray, spokesman for the department. Roads are slick and snow is coming down heavier so drive carefully.
Residents should stay home as conditions worsen and let road clearing crews to get their jobs done, Gray said.
No power outages have been reported, but if power outages do occur, the town has designated several areas in town as warming stations.
