Luke Yeager scored 21 points and Staples clinched a berth in the Class LL boys basketball tournament with a 66-61 victory over New Canaan in a Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference contest.
Staples raced out to a 33-18 lead after one quarter and had a 45-30 lead at halftime. The Wreckers improved to 8-4 overall and 7-3 in the FCIAC. Gabe Seidman added 19 for the Wreckers, while Pete Rankowitz scored 12 points and Mike Argosh had 10.
Staples hosts Harding Thursday at 7 p.m. and brings a three-game winning streak into the contest.
