Spano and Latimer used the opportunity to reiterate that Yonkers schools have received record amounts of funding from New York state over the last two years. "In Senator Latimer's 21 months representing the City of Yonkers as a State Senator, Yonkers has secured record amounts of funding for our schools, to the tune of an addition $45 million over the last two years," said Spano.

"I know the climate in Albany having served there myself and it is not an easy environment to work in but George has made a career of working well with Democrats and Republicans and the proof of that was in our shared success delivering significant additional aid for Yonkers students. We have a fighter for Yonkers schools in Senator Latimer and it's important that he continues his fight for our students." "Growing up in Mt. Vernon and attending the public schools there, I was able to hit the ground running when I became a senator representing Yonkers and that was helpful in understanding the needs and ultimately advocating for the additional school aid that we delivered," Latimer explained.

"The only way to actually fix the problems that have faced Yonkers schools for decades is to work cooperatively with local leaders and members of both political parties in both chambers in Albany," he said.

'Working hand in hand with Mayor Spano," Latimer continued, "we succeeded and over the course of my first term representing Yonkers delivered an additional $45 million to the Yonkers schools. I have already shown that a spirit of partnership and not partisanship is the only way to successfully fight for Yonkers and I look forward to continuing working in that fashion for Yonkers."
