“SEIU's members are impressed with Kevin Coyner's commitment to fight for working families once he is elected,” said Paul Filson, director of the SEIU Connecticut State Council.
“Kevin understands the importance of unions and will stand up for workers in the Connecticut House of Representatives. We are pleased to endorse Kevin and will let our members know about our recommendation,” Filson said.
SEIU 1199NE’s Connecticut branch represents more than 19,000 workers in the health-care industry, including technicians, nurses, service and maintenance employees and clerical staff. Its members work in state services, community programs for the developmentally disabled, nursing homes and hospitals.
“I’m happy and proud to accept SEIU Healthcare 1199NE’s endorsement,” said Coyner, a career firefighter for the Town of Greenwich. “As a union member myself, I recognize the value in organized labor and will be committed to protecting their interests once elected State Representative.”
Coyner also received the endorsement of the Working Families Party and will be on both the Working Families Party and Democratic Party ballot lines on Nov. 4.
“The Working Families Party champions values that mirror mine: affordable higher education, a fair tax code to allow middle class upward mobility and equality,” he said.
He is challenging incumbent Republican Brenda Kupchick for the seat in the 132nd House District.
