WESTPORT, Conn. – If you’ve noticed a sudden increase in traffic or security around Westport Monday, it’s because President Barack Obama is coming for dinner.

Harvey Weinstein, movie producer and Democratic Party supporter, opens his Westport home Monday night to have guests sit for supper with the president.

According to Westport Democratic Town Committee Chairperson James Ezzes, who spoke to The Westport Daily Voice earlier, the 50 to 60 guests will pay $35,800 per person. Ezzes said the dinner will start at around 6:30 or 7 p.m., after Obama appears at a fundraising event at the Stamford Marriott, which begins at 5 p.m.

To many, the cost of $35,800 is a little steep although Ezzes said that a similar Republican dinner for Gov. Mitt Romney cost $50,000 per person. But would you pay the price to eat with the president?

When asked if she would pay the price in order to dine with the president, 20-year-old Elizabeth Smith from Fairfield said, yes, she would. “It would be interesting, but I don’t have the money.”

Both Dennis and Rosane Burton of Milford responded with an immediate, “no,” when asked. “Even if I had the money I wouldn’t,” Rosane said. “Maybe if it was Bono.”

Her husband continued saying that he might spend it on dinner with the president, if he had the money.

“If I had the money, I wouldn’t spend it on dinner with any candidate,” Pound Ridge New York resident Nate Kelly said. Gracie Phillips, who was visiting Kelly, said she just doesn’t have the money what with college loans to pay off, but that she might spend it if she had the money.

Weston resident, Paul Levine, who was shopping on Main Street in Westport with his daughter said, “No. There are other things I’d spend that money on.”

Ya know, with 8.2% unemployment here in Connecticut and a spiralling amount of national debt, one wonders about those who have so much to spend on a fund raiser like that. The food better be good.

Tim T:

Of course the troll forgot to mention the reason CT has 8..2 percent unemployment is do to the disaster Bush created..

jrey:

Tim, don't forget to blame Bush on these: $16T national debt, Japan tsunami, airport kiosks, ATM machines, WWI, WWII, civil war, slavery, Vietnam war, Korean war, Katrina, etc etc etc.

Tim T:

Typical puppet republican with convenient Alzheimer's

jrey:

Does he ever work in his office in DC? Vacationing, golfing and fund-raising aren't considered "work", are they?

Tim T:

Well at least hes not drunk at the ranch like some other president.

mkbocc:

Not a chance would I spend that type of money to eat with anyone!!

Ken P Jr:

Must be nice to get paid to solicit money for your own campaign. Politics in this country are a pathetic example of everything wrong with it.

Drewt008:

So let me get this straight: The president is trying to close a mere $2 million dollar fundraising gap (got that from another media source) so he is coming to Fairfield Co digging for cash...The Norwalk public schools just CUT and passed a budget cutting $5.9 Million dollars from our children's classrooms! Is it me or is there something seriously wrong here?!?! If anyone wants to actually donate to close a gap try the Norwalk Public Schools..Anyone going to the Obama fundraiser want to step up to the plate here?!?!?! Anyone??? Anyone???

65andcounting:

Drew: I understand the gap to be $25 million! Obama raised $75m in June to Romney's $101m. If I had to guess, I say you got your $2m number from either MSNBC or the New York Times! :-)

But your point is excellent about the public schools - no matter the town or candidate raising money.

lwitherspoon:

Excellent question Drew. Would Harvey Weinstein consider holding a $38,500 per plate fundraiser to raise money for Norwalk schools?

Tim T:

WAHT
One thing has nothing to do with the other..Hey maybe Moccia could hold that fundraiser has he is the reason Norwalk is in the mess that it is.

Drewt008:

If you happen to have his number I'll give him a call and ask....Trust me I would!

lwitherspoon:

I don't have his direct numbers but here is the contact information for his office in Manhattan:

The Weinstein Company
345 Hudson Street
New York, NY 10014
646-862-3400

If that doesn't work, you could write to his Westport address, which is public information.

Drewt008:

Thanks Spoon I will be sending a letter and calling..Trust me!!!

Tim T:

Wow Sure everyone is waiting for your call.

Tim T:

Is this not against the terms of use posting phone numbers and address?

jrey:

Are you gonna cry now?

Eddie Thundercloud:

I would spend it on cheesy fries and a double meat cheeseburger at Wendy's
