Scarborough is the host of "Morning Joe" on MSNBC and a former Republican congressman from Florida. He had announced in June that he would be leaving the Republican Party due to its support for President Donald Trump.

Scarborough has been critical of Trump during his time in office. Shortly before Scarborough made his announcement, Trump took to Twitter to criticize Scarborough's co-host and fiancee Mika Brzezinski, insulting her intelligence and accusing her of having poor plastic surgery work done.

Registrar of Voters John Amarilios told the New Canaan Advertiser that Scarborough came down to his office in New Canaan Town Hall on Thursday. Scarborough officially changed his party affiliation from Republican to unaffiliated.
