Murphy Calls For U.S. 'To Stand Shoulder To Shoulder With France'

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee, called for the U.S. to stand with France after over 100 people were killed in terror attacks in Paris on Friday.

“My heart sunk into my chest when I heard the news of another terrorist attack in Paris," said Murphy. "Now is the time for America to stand shoulder to shoulder with France, our unbreakable ally, in this moment of crisis.

"We know too well the raw, searing amalgam of fear, anger and sorrow that accompany large-scale terrorist attacks, and the thoughts of everyone in Connecticut are with the people of Paris tonight.

"As President Obama stated this evening, the United States stands ready to assist in the effort to bring the perpetrators of this horror to justice.”

Although authorities said there were no immediate threats to the United States, security was stepped up Friday in and around New York City -- including at the Hudson River crossings -- after dozens of people were killed and many more injured in three separate shootings and explosions in Paris.

"No known threat to the city at this time," the NYPD tweeted at 6:40 p.m. Friday, "but until we learn more, we are deploying more police out of an abundance of caution."
