As the new legislative season opens, the organization is pushing for changes. It cites a state campaign finance law that was adopted in the middle of the night in 2013 with no opportunity for public scrutiny. Also, a Keno gambling was approved in the final days of the session.
The League believes that democratic government requires that governmental bodies protect state citizens’ right to know by giving adequate notice of proposed actions.
The League is recommending changes to the General Assembly that would require strike-all amendments to be printed and posted on the General Assembly’s website at least two legislative days prior to final passage and that substitute language be available to the public prior to a committee vote.

The league also encourages residents to call or e-mail legislators to express support for greater transparency in Connecticut’s governmental process.
