FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The shutdown of the federal government will soon have an impact on the U.S. District Court in Fairfield County and two other federal courts in Connecticut, forcing them to close after Friday.

The judiciary projected that available funds would enable court operations to continue for 10 business days after the shutdown began, said a notice from Clerk Robin D. Tabora posted on the website of the U.S. District Court in Connecticut. However, even with restricted spending, the courts are running out of money, the notice said.

Jury trials will continue to operate as necessary during the continuing two-week-old shutdown triggered by a budget standoff, the notice said.

“Payments to jurors will be made as long as funds are available,” Tabora said in the statement. “If funds are not available, courts may continue to call jurors and assure them that they will be paid, although the payment may be delayed.”

Meanwhile, the shutdown is delaying federal criminal investigations and civil cases, Connecticut's Acting U.S. Attorney Deirdre Daly told The Associated Press .

Federal criminal prosecutors are working without pay, and prosecutors are asking for delays on civil cases, Daly said.

"It's undermining of the very critical law enforcement purpose that our office is dedicated to," she said in the story.

In federal courts, all proceedings and deadlines remain in effect as scheduled, the notice said. Case management/electronic case files will remain in operation for the electronic filing of documents with the courts.

Federal courts in Connecticut that are facing shutdown are located in Bridgeport, Hartford and New Haven.
