Fairfield's Kupchick Wants To Strike Down Homeowner Insurance Link To Dogs

FARIFIELD COUNTY, Conn. – State Rep. Brenda Kupchick, R-Fairfield, is looking to ban insurance companies from asking residents about the breeds of dogs they own and discriminating against any breed when making homeowner insurance policies, The Hartford Courant reports.

According to the report, Kupchick’s bill mentions breeds such as pit-bull type terriers and rottweilers that often cause insurers to raise rates or to deny coverage to homeowners. The Courant also cited insurance industry leaders who said that the proposed law would force companies to hike policy rates for everyone.
