Boughton, the Republican mayor of Danbury, needs to collect 8,190 signatures by 4 p.m. June 10 to get Shelton Mayor Mark Lauretti on the ballot.
According to state law, only registered Republicans can distribute the petition. Boughton’s campaign said it has received 1,000 signatures so far.
Boughton is seeking to challenge Republican-endorsed Tom Foley of Greenwich and challenger John McKinney of Fairfield in the August primary. The winner of the primary will run against incumbent Democrat Dannel Malloy in November.
