Connecticut Ballot Question On Early Voting Heading Toward Failure

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut voters likely rejected a ballot question that could have opened the door to early voting in Connecticut in the future.

Chances were dimming for voter approval of an amendment to the state Constitution that would have cleared the way for the General Assembly to make changes in how people can vote in the Nutmeg State, according to the Hartford Courant.

In other statewide races, Gov. Dannel Malloy claimed victory beside Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday. Republican challenger Tom Foley and his running mate, Heather Somers, had not conceded.

In the race for Comptroller, Kevin Lembo, the Democratic incumbent, claimed victory over Republican challenger Sharon McLaughlin.

In the race for attorney general, Democratic incumbent George Jepsen took an early victory over Kie Westby, a Republican who once lived in Weston.

The race for secretary of the state between Denise Merrill, the Democratic incumbent, and Republcan challenger Peter Lumaj was too close to call early Wednesday.

The treasurer's race was also a cliffhanger with no winner declared between Democratic incumbent Denise Nappier and Republican challenger Tim Herbst.
