At around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 10, a woman pulled up to the drive up teller kiosk at the People's Bank in the Goodwives Shopping Center and tried to cash two checks. Both checks were in the $1,000 range and were made out to in the name of the same person, police said.

The person attempting to cash the checks was described as a white female in her mid-30s to early 40s with dark hair and wearing a gray shirt, police said. She presented a debit card and driver's license in the same name that was listed on the checks, but bank personnel were suspicious of the transaction and requested that she come into the bank, police said. At that point, the woman fled the area in an unknown direction.

Employees told police that the woman was driving a black, newer model SUV that was possibly an Audi Q5.

An officer contacted the person whose name was on the checks as the payee. She said that her purse had been stolen on Oct. 8 in Rocky Hill, and that it had contained her license and debit card.

Police said that the investigation is ongoing, as it appears that the same subject and vehicle were involved in similar fraudulent activity in other Connecticut towns.
