Frank A. Burnett, 30, was charged with fourth-degree larceny. He posted $2,000 bond and will appear in court Nov. 17.
The theft occurred Oct. 11 when the suspect entered the Inn by posing as a wedding guest and proceeded to steal an ornamental bird cage, which contained congratulatory cards with cash and checks for the bride and groom, police said.
The suspect was captured on video surveillance fleeing through the lobby with the birdcage and exiting the building, police said.
Westport police said they received several tips identifying Burnett as the suspect after footage from the surveillance video was run on news media outlets in Connecticut and New York.
After a monthlong investigation, police said they were able to positively identify Burnett as the suspect and secure an arrest warrant.
Burnett had attended a different wedding at the Inn at Longshore weeks earlier and returned Oct. 11 when he committed the larceny, according to police. After learning about the warrant for his arrest, Burnett turned himself in to Westport police Friday.
