WESTPORT, Conn. — A Norwalk man who sped away from officers during a May traffic stop turned himself in Friday on several charges, police said.

Around 10 p.m. on May 24, an officer saw a red Ford Explorer run through a stop sign at Old Hill and Patrick roads and stopped the vehicle, police said.

The driver, Kyle Cichowicz, 25, of Wolfpit Avenue, seemed nervous and the officer could smell the strong odor of marijuana in the car, police said. Cichowicz admitted to having marijuana and gave the officer a clear baggie containing a green leafy substance, police said.

When the officer went back to his car, Cichowicz sped westbound on Patrick Road, police said. The officer gave chase, but police could not find Cichowicz that night and sought a warrant for his arrest.

Cichowicz, who turned himself in around 7 p.m. Friday, was charged with engaging police in pursuit, disobeying a signal of an officer, reckless driving, a stop sign violation, improper rear lamps, possession of less than a half-ounce of marijuana and interfering with an officer, police said.

He was released on a court-set $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 14.
