Bridgeport National Guard Member Killed By Unsafe Lane Change, Police Say

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- New York State Police said an unsafe lane change made by a civilian driver contributed to the accident that killed Bridgeport resident and National Guard member Ronald Patterson Jr. on I-95 in Rye in August, according to CBS Connecticut.

The civilian driver, Odson Meritle of Stamford, was attempting to take an exit ramp when he cut in front of the National Guard transport vehicle and collided with it, CBS Connecticut said. 

No charges have been brought against Meritle, but the investigation remains open, CBS Connecticut reported.
