The eastbound bicyclist tried to cross East Putnam Avenue around 6:20 a.m. to get to the north side of the road. The teen is a member of the high school football team and was on his way to Cardinal Stadium, Lt. Kraig Gray said.

“As he did that he ended up striking a small box truck,” Gray said. The box truck was also traveling east, he said. The teen wasn't wearing a helmet and suffered a concussion and a collapsed lung.

"My understanding is he is expected to make a full recovery," Gray said.

Greenwich police are continuing the investigation, he said.
