At around 4:30 p.m., officers from the Strategic Narcotics Enforcement Team were dispatched to the Courtyard Marriott hotel located on 474 Main Ave. in Norwalk. The hotel management had reported the odor of marijuana coming from one of the rooms, and wanted the occupants escorted from the premises, police said.

Officers contacted the two occupants in the hallway, identified as 21-year-old Kevin Tobar-Castillo and 30-year-old Johan Cifuentes, both of Stamford. The officers could detect the heavy odor of marijuana coming from the room, and were granted permission to search it, according to police.

Inside the room they found loose marijuana strewn about, drug packaging material and a large amount of cash, police said. Both men were then placed under arrest. They also found keys to a Cadillac in Cifuentes's possession, and located the Cadillac in the hotel parking lot, where it was unlocked and running, police said.

Police could see a large ziplock bag of marijuana on the center console, and when they searched the car they found two suitcases that contained large amounts of packaged marijuana and drug packaging materials, according to police.

The total amount of marijuana the officers seized weighed 4.129 kilograms, just over 9 pounds, police said. They also seized $18,317 in cash, as well as the drug packaging materials, according to police.

Tobar-Castillo and Cifuentes were both charged with possession of marijuana, possession with intent to sell one kilogram or more of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a daycare, operating a drug factory, possession of drug paraphernalia within 1,500 feet of a daycare, and breach of peace. Their bond was set at $50,000.
