Douglas Hus-Flores, 19, of 46 Seaside Ave., was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He was held on $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in Stamford state Superior Court on Thursday afternoon. His next scheduled court appearance is April 4.

Lt. Tom Barcello said Hus-Flores, a Guatemalan native who is believed to be living illegally in the United States, was watching the child while the mother had to leave the residence. When the mother returned at about 10:30 p.m., the child told her what happened, Barcello said. He declined to say what had occurred. He said the girl was between the ages of 3 and 8.

Stamford Emergency Medical Service was called, and police were called in once it was discovered there was a possible sexual assault, Barcello said.

The child was first taken for treatment but was transferred to Yale-New Haven Hospital in New Haven for specialized care for children who have suffered sexual assault,, police said.

Barcello said Hus-Flores had been scheduled to attend a previously scheduled immigration hearing Thursday, but he remains in police custody on the criminal charges.
