GREENWICH, Conn. -- A felony charge of second-degree manslaughter has also been lodged against the Ridgefield, Conn., driver arrested in connection with the weekend hit-and-run death of a woman in a Greenwich parking lot, online court documents show.

Vyacheslav Cherepov, 26, of Danbury Road was arrested Sunday after he returned in his car to the William Street parking lot where the accident occurred early Saturday, police said.

Cherepov, who also faces a charge of evading responsibility causing death or serious injury, was held on $750,000 bond after his arraignment at Stamford Superior Court on Monday. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

His car struck Meghan Beebe, 21, of Middlebury, in the parking lot of a Byram-area restaurant, police said.

He stopped briefly and then drove away, dragging her under his car for four blocks, police said.

A female companion of Beebe’s tried unsuccessfully to stop Cherepov as he drove with Beebe pinned beneath the car, Greenwich police said. Beebe was found lying on the street by an unidentified resident, police said. She was transported to Stamford Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Cherepov also worked at a restaurant near the accident, according to police. He is a native of Russia who has lived in Connecticut for 13 years.

Beebe, a graduate of the Westover School, had recently fulfilled her graduation requirements at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

She was recognized at Westover for her musical talents and her photographic work. During her senior year she had served as a dormitory proctor, co-captain of the varsity soccer team, and Second Head of the Glee Club.

At UMass, she volunteered for a sexual assault crisis hotline and had recently completed an internship at the Hampshire County Jail and House of Correction in Northampton, Mass.

Calling hours will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Chase Parkway Memorial/The Albini Family Funeral Home, 430 Chase Parkway, Waterbury. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, at St. John of the Cross Church in Middlebury. Burial will follow at Lake Elise Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to either the Westover School, P.O. Box 847, Middlebury, CT 06762 or to the Nonnewaug High School Scholarship Fund, In Care of Pam Sordi, 5 Minortown Road, Woodbury, CT 06798.
