Police Increase Presence At Greenwich Schools As Precaution

GREENWICH, Conn. – Greenwich police have increased its presence around schools in town as a precaution after reports of a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, according to a statement from Greenwich Superintendent of Schools William McKersie.

"At this point in time, all indications are that this situation is isolated to Newtown," McKersie said in the statement. "We are working in close coordination with the Greenwich Police Department regarding any matters pertaining to the safety and security of our students and staff."

Reports are conflicting as of 1 p.m. as to how many have been injured are killed.

"Please be assured that all building leaders are aware of the situation and all GPS staff have been informed," McKersie said. "We will update you as more information becomes available and/or as necessary. Please keep the community in your thoughts."
