Fairfield Deputy Police Chief Christopher Lyddy confirmed Saturday that toxicology tests showed Adam Seagull had high levels of Benadryl in his system when he died, according to NBC Connecticut.
Adam Gregory Vasaturo Seagull, the son of Matthew and Michelle (Vasaturo) Seagull of Shelton, died March 22. He was born in New Haven on Nov. 17, 2015.
His family call Adam their “little prince,” “tootie muffin” and “little man” and to his mother as “mama’s sweet boy,” according to his obituary. "His infectious smile brought immediate joy to everyone who had the privilege of experiencing it. As he would look at you with his beautiful brown eyes, your heart became bigger and fuller with love," the obituary said.
Adam's death was originally thought to be a case of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, according to the Fairfield Citizen.
Carol Cardillo had run the unlicensed daycare at her home at 63 Edgewood Road for 11 years, the Fairfield Citizen reported. It has be closed since the boy's death, the story said.
Lyddy said the Benadryl overdose could have been an accident, but negligence could be a factor and could result in criminal charges, the Citizen said.
Last Tuesday, a 2-month-old New Canaan girl was rushed from her licensed home daycare in Stamford to Stamford Hospital, where she died. The death of Bella Redondo has also been ruled a homicide due to blunt force trauma to the head. No arrests have been made in that case.
