A man entered the JPMorgan Chase Bank at 137 W. Putnam Ave. at about 4:25 p.m. Thursday and demanded cash with a note, Greenwich Police Lt. Kraig Gray said in an email. The man was similar in appearance, stature and conduct to the same suspect that robbed the People’s Bank in town last week, Gray said.
On Thursday, he threatened to shoot the teller if the teller didn't follow his instructions and gestured toward his waistband, Gray said.
The man spoke to the teller in English, however, he had a strong Spanish accent, Gray said. The robber was given several thousand dollars and left, Gray said.
Police believe he went around the corner and fled in an older black midsize sedan, which was described as "dingy" with tinted or smoked-out windows, Gray said.
In addition, just hours before the heist at the Chase Bank branch, police had announced that the suspect in the People's United Bank robbery had been linked to the robbery of a Wells Fargo bank in Linden, N.J., on Aug. 20.
The manhunt for the suspect after the Aug. 28 robbery in Greenwich led Metro-North to stop trains at the nearby station and caused hours of delays.
Witnesses describe the suspect as a short Hispanic male of medium build from 5-foot-4 to 5-foot-6. He was wearing a black baseball cap with a straight brim, a gray thermal type shirt and dark pants in the bank robbery Thursday.
No injuries were reported in the robberies, and police were continuing to investigate.
