NORWALK, Conn. — A Norwalk woman was charged with providing fentanyl-laced crack to somebody who overdosed in July, according to the Hour.
Brenda Lopez, 39, was charged with second-degree assault after police said she gave the crack cocaine to somebody who suffered a non-fatal overdose in July, the Hour reported.
Police told the Hour that the arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into overdoses on fentanyl-laced crack that have plagued the city this year. Over the period of one weekend in July, there were seven overdoses on crack that was laced with fentanyl, including two that were fatal.
Police arrested two people following the rash of overdoses. Eric Frank, 29, of Norwalk was arrested after police said that undercover officers purchased crack cocaine from him in the parking lot of Best Buy. Derrick Wiggins, 43, of Waterbury was also arrested after meeting with undercover officers, according to police.
After a warrant for Lopez's arrest was issued, she was taken into custody on Friday, according to the Hour.
